UEW Vice-Chancellor’s Community Initiative Offers Free Skills Training; ASSN Urges Indigenes with Special Needs to Apply

The Association of Students with Special Needs (ASSN) commends the management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) for introducing the Vice-Chancellor’s Community Initiative Project, a community-centered program designed to provide practical vocational skills to local youth. The initiative offers a completely free, six-week practical training program for indigenes of the Effutu traditional area aged between 16 and 35 who hold a JHS or SHS qualification. To eliminate financial barriers to participation, UEW is covering all training fees and providing all required learning materials free of charge.
Participants in the program will receive hands-on instruction in three key vocational areas, including Pastry and Bread Making, Batik and Tie-Dye, and Wig Making and Installation. In addition to core technical crafts, the curriculum incorporates foundational business modules on materials management, entrepreneurship, product marketing, and packaging to prepare trainees to start and run their own enterprises successfully.
Highlighting the inclusive potential of the program, ASSN leadership commends UEW management for bringing such a project to the Effutu area under the Vice-Chancellor's name. The Association issues a special call to action, strongly urging indigenes with special needs within the Effutu community to take full advantage of this opportunity by applying and acquiring self-sustaining skills.
Application forms are currently available for pick-up at Nyce FM, located around the Winneba Roundabout at the former location of Run-Off Restaurant, as well as the Pecku Building Security Post at the North Campus of the University of Education, Winneba. All completed application forms must be submitted on or before 24th September, 2026. Selection will be conducted on a strict first-come, first-served basis due to limited space, and interested applicants can reach out via call or WhatsApp at +233 20 708 2954 for further enquiries.
